But the over-popularity of Elmo has been around already for more than a decade (not that I condone it); Fran Brill still performs as Zoe & Praire--not to mention whomever performs Rosita--so Leslie (Abby) is not alone luckily, but yeah, there seems to be a shortage of--really--performers in general, hence part of the move to CGI (ex: SuperGrover & Abby's Flying Fairy School); & the budget cuts have affected everyone, not just public TV.

1. The over-popularity of Elmo
2. The lack of female performers (all we have now it seems is Leslie Carrara-Rudolph)
3. The budget cuts and repeats of repeats of repeats from seasons past

@muppetlover16: Well, Anything Muppets have kind of gone by the wayside now. Currently, it's all about the already dwindling established cast, as far as Sesame Street is concerned. The Muppets (i.e. The Muppet Show crew) are already getting a comeback movie this November starring Jason Segal & the Fraggles are reported to be getting either a Broadway musical or it is finally true that the movie is getting steam, with Scissor Sisters as the group that brings music to the film.
