@SteveSabbai The design was a stopgap after the military realized it would be longer to field the Sherman. The choice to use the m2 running gear made this necessary to ease retooling issues.

@SteveSabbai That was because it was a hasty modification of a pre-war design. American tank design between the wars was every bit as retarded as British tank design was. All of the Allies were designing mult-turret tanks.

@balongaboy No, we called it the Grant. The Lee was the unmodified US version. Both names were British code, the yanks knew it as the Medium Tank M3.

...the M3 had a very deadly design flaw..why the hell would they put the main gun on the body instead of a turret where it belongs!?...this flaw most likely cost alot of needless KIA...

Yep, WW2. Made in the USA and sold to the British. The British version had a modified turret giving a lower profile.
