民視英語新聞報導野草莓學運：Student Protest Falling Off

民視新聞台2008/11/12晚間以英語播報野草莓學運，文字稿：The number of university students participating in a sit-in protest has fallen off with less than 20 still sitting out in the wind and rain in Liberty Square Taipei. A spokesman for the protest group said that the arrival of mid-semester exams has had an effect as well as the inclement weather. In a separate incident at the same location, an elderly man set himself on fire, allegedly in protest at the behavior of police during last week's visit to Taiwan of China's envoy Chen Yunlin.

At around midday on Tuesday an 80-year-old former KMT worker from Nantou County set himself on fire in protest against the government. In a note, he outlined his anger over people being beaten for waving the national flag and the governments failure to stand up to China during last week's visit by Chinese envoy Chen Yunlin. By-standers and some of student protesters assisted in putting out the flames but the man received burns to 80 percent of his body. He was taken to the nearby Taiwan National University Hospital for emergency treatment.

Nearby meanwhile, a student sit-down protest entered its sixth day with the number of protesters visibly dwindling, leaving only a few more than 10 students.

Over the past few days, students have to study for exams with the mid-semester exams coming up, said protest spokesman Lee Li-wei. In addition, the rain over the past few days (has seen some students leave.) We will respect the individuals' right to choose.

Although the number of participating students has dropped off representatives said that the protest will definitely continue.
