A review of the Kenwood TS-480SAT. A great HF radio. Although manufactured for mobile operations, I'm using it for a base. One of the few times I purchased a radio and fell right in love with it. This radio ROCKS. My antenna is a G5RV about 30 feet above ground elevation.

  • How many watts are you running?

  • @Randomness0014. I was peaking at 100 watts. I have since traded in the SAT for an HX model. They are both great radios!!! 73 and thanks for watching!

  • You will indeed enjoy the KW480SAT. I now have the HX version and it is also an excellent rig as well... Thanks for viewing. 73 from AI4QT.

  • Actually, I used the standard stock mic with the rig. I've recently sold the radio (nothing wrong with it). Just needed to get rid of some radios to make room for more "stuff" :-) Sorry I couldn't be of addional help. Cheers.

  • why wouldnt he be able to copy you with 100 watts out, most modern rigs will do that, old ones will also do it. the 480 looks like a nice rig. thanks for making the video..

  • Ordered me a TS-480HX! (Yaesu FT-950 still my main rig though!) :)

  • Great video... thanks for posting. I am considering the TS-480SAT for my primary (and first) HF rig.

  • Dumb ?, you can run it with the face plate attached to the base unit right? LOL. Sorry, but all the pics/videos I see show it separated and the manual is confusing in that it suggests that you have to use the portable bracket.

    Thanks!

  • Nice Job. I just stared looking for a new rig and your review here of the TS-480SAT really helped me makeup my mind. The 480 was always at the top of my list but I think you just helped seal the deal. Thanks. 73 de Fred KE5LU

  • I am looking for an inexpensive hf for a base, and because of reviews I've read, this seems to be one of the best choices.

Thanks for the video, I am going for it!
