Ashton was such a bitch, after Madeline helped her, she turned around and betrayed her and Orry, just like that Witch Doctor said. I would have never helped her, but I supposed Ashton knew about her and Orry, that's why she went to her because she knew she would have no other choice but to help her or she would tell Madeline husband about her affair.

Did she get killed in the end of Book 2, I guess she did not because I remember her in Heaven and Hell.
