過労死（かろうし、カローシ）とは、周囲からの暗黙の強制のもとで長時間残業や休日なしの勤務を強いられる結果、精神的・肉体的負担で、働き盛りのビジネスマンが脳溢血、­心臓麻痺などで突然死することである（最近は若者も多くなっている）。英語では元々work oneself to deathと普通に翻訳されていたが、日本の状況が諸外国でも報道されることが増えたためそのまま「Karoushi、Karoshi」として翻訳されている。

また厚生労働省のマニュアルによれば、「過労死とは過度な労働負担が誘因となって、高血圧や動脈硬化などの基礎疾患が悪化し、脳血管疾患や虚血性心疾患、急性心不全などを­発症し、永久的労働不能または死に至った状態をいう」と定義されている。[1]

日本語の過労死がそのまま使われるのはこれが日本特異の現象であるとの認識を示す。またカロウシは英語の辞書や他言語の辞書にも掲載されている。先進国であるはずの日本の­封建的な労働状況を象徴する言葉として認知されるようになる。

日本と同じで労働基準法の甘い途上国を中心に多数の事例が報告されているがこの場合にこれらの過労死がカロウシと表現されることはない。

酔っ払い（よっぱらい）とは、エタノール含有飲料（日本酒、ビール、焼酎などのアルコール飲料。以下、酒とする）を飲み、酩酊状態にある人をさす。

I think the stats at the start of the video are incorrect. It would roughly come to 46 hours a week of work. maybe a little more if vacation is taken. From my understanding the Salaryman works long long hours of maybe 12-14 hours most days. At 12 hours a day 5 days a week, that's a 60 hour week or over 3000 hours a year. In the US I have met a few people who have pulled 60+ hour weeks and they look more like those in this video.
