Picture a network of walking, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails that tie together the best of southern Armenia's nature and culture, igniting a sense of adventure and a spirit of exploration. Combine it with the opportunity to set foot in monasteries abandoned centuries earlier, interacting with villagers who are famous for their hospitality. That's the vision of the Zangezur Trails.

Here, we follow Nyree Abrahamian, Yeghia Nersesian, and Syuzanna Azoyan as they plot the hiking trails that will eventually become the Zangezur Trails.

  • Thanks for this video! It's been 7 years since I've been through Zangezur, but it's truly hard to forget how beautiful this part of Armenia is.

  • @robmaguire We're actually going back early next week to do some more plotting and filming. One of the things I didn't fit into this video was just how warm and welcoming the villagers were. I'm not sure what your experience was like, but we couldn't meet anyone from the villages without being invited in for coffee or homemade vodka. Basically, I completely agree: I love this region.

Thanks so much for your comment.

  • @komihoc, I really hope you can make it too! Thanks for the feedback.

  • Hi Nyree, Hi Suz. Great video. Great idea. I wish you luck on building the trail. I look forward to walking it next time I am in Armenia.

  • @NCFArmenia The homemade mulberry vodka is, in my opinion, the most dangerous. Especially when consumed before noon!

  • What a marvelous idea! I wish I was there with you all the way. But you should know, that there are thousands just like me, who really appreciate your efforts. Syunik is a true magnifecent place in Armenia. I really hope to ride my mountain bike on this trails in a very near future.
