Die Kalenderpanden sind ein alter Lagerhallenkomplex, von dem ungefaehr die Haelfte seit ein paar Jahren besetzt ist.
Der alte Bau soll fuer Luxusappartments saniert werden.
Das will zwar niemand, braechte der Gemeinde und dem Bauherrn aber 'ne Menge Kohle.
Die Kalenderpanden setzen dem kontinuierlich autonome Politik, Kultur von unten und ein selbstbestimmtes Wohnprojekt entgegen.
Vielen ist das Haus seit dem EU-Gipfel 1997 bekannt, wo es zahlreichen Auswaertigen als Pennplatz diente.
Es ist die mit Abstand groesste verbliebene Besetzung in Amsterdam. Das soll auch so bleiben!
Die Kalenderpanden sind eines der grössten besetzen Häuser in den Niederlanden.
Sie wurden im November 1996 besetzt, aus dem Pakhuis (Speicher) entwickelte sich ein Kulturprojekt, in dem 20 Menschen wohnen und arbeiten. Es gibt eine Kneipe, ein Kino, Sportraeume, ein Piratensender, einmal woechentlich Vokue, mindestens 2 Konzerte pro Woche. Die Kalenderpanden sind in Amsterdam eine wichtige Anlaufstelle fuer unkommerzielle Veranstaltungen.
Während des Eurogipfels 1997 in Amsterdam waren die Kalenderpanden ein Informationspunkt fuer viele Demonstranten (vielleicht erinnert ihr euch), auch die Karawane der indischen Bauern hatte eine Woche Aufenthalt in den Kalenderpanden.

Could someone please translate to english? unfortunately I don't speak Dutch. I did notice a few of the people had the right idea (paint at the loader, a pot over top of the tear gas... I sort of thought a person with a hockey stick would have worked good to fire the canasters back... and for the record saline solution works great to wash tear gas and pepper spray out of someones eyes...

Sad to see this but good to have a document of the event. I remember Entrepotdok with much happiness and positive feeling. I was squatting in Amsterdam in 1998. Cheap food and good music, smiling faces and a warm fire were always to be found at Entrepotdok. This was a cultural island in a growing sea of exploitation and so-called development (read: making as much out of your brothers and sisters as possible). Keep up the struggle. Go Krakers!!!
