I have started this projext and have two questions:

    1) Do you have to have to get every scrape of the old caulk off (I am doing around the tub and the side of thetub is much more difficult that then front and back.

    2) For around the tub, what do you think about caulk vs pre mixed grout?

It's suggested that you remove as much of the old caulk as you possibly can so the new caulk has a clean surface to adhere to.

As for caulk vs pre-mixed grout, it's a personal preference although caulk is generally preferred. Grout is not flexible and does not allow for expansion and contraction.

Allow grout to dry at least 24 hours. If you're planning to seal the grout allow it to dry at least 72 hours.

=.= my dad's been doing this all wrong. He cut too deep and pretty much started scraping the wall behind the tile. How long does it take for the caulk to cure or to dry?

Drying to time will depend on the type of caulk that you use - check the back of the caulk tube to find drying time. Most will dry between 24 and 36 hours.

Ron you're amazing! I used your video and took all that old crap out and lay down new caulk and it worked. Every aspect of it worked, including rubbing out extra moldy areas with the bleach AND using the soapy water to make a clean line of caulk. I went to Home Depot and bought a small hand squeezed tube of Caulk for about $4. I'm female and completed the work on my own without feeling intimidated. Thanks for your help!

Saliva ... now that's a new one. Here are a couple of other options. Warm water to which a couple of drops of dish washing detergent has been added. Also, isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or denatured alcohol will work.

    Thank you Ron,

Wish i would have watched this prior to recaulking my tub. When he say's don't use any more caulk than you absolutely have to listen to the man. Excess is a pain to remove and gums up all over the place.

Hi Ron! Thanks for the video, I'm new at this and have a couple questions, hope you can answer them:

There are certain obvious areas around the tub that show the old caulking can be scraped and peeled, however there are also areas where it did not show its coming off, however when pressed into it, something cracked underneath the old caulk. Do you know what this may be? I feel like that needs to be replaced before I should put the silicone caulk over it. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
