Actually, abacab987, RCA Victor introduced their first color TV consoles to the market in 1954, some seven years before Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color premiered on NBC in 1961. And NBC first started broadcasting in color in 1954 also.
When this was first broadcast, RCA had just released color television. It used a synchronous burst cathode ray tube with a new "trinitron" feature. Three emitters, a blue, red and green. The phosphor screen had 525 lines of resolution. Now the hi-def screens have about six times that. Each of the original thirteen VHF channels have been subdivided. We are now at a juncture where technology has produced a societal lag. Please look up the movie "zeitgeist" on u-tube or google. power to the people.
