  • In the studio we use Pocket Wizard all the time. Outside however or even in a large enclosed area such as an airport the MiniTT and Fkex5 simply don't work. The max ETTL range with our 780's is no more than than 10 - 20ft In fact, we get better line of sight coverage using IR. Also. The TT1 uses a battery that is very hard to replace. Even our camera store don't stock them!

  • There's lots of things you don't *need*. In fact most things photographers use they don't need, most are tools that simplify their work. Can you take stunning pictures with a $500 DSLR? Sure, so why do pros spend $1500, $2000, $3000, $7000 etc on great bodies? For all those extra features that make their lives easier, that's why. This is just another tool, one that allows syncing of remote flashes with full TTL, a very useful tool indeed and would pay for itself in time saved very quickly.

  • Not all Pros spend that kind of money!

Some just have camera and lens and they create wonders.

I spend way too much, These are little extra things you don't really need to take amazing pictures. I have a whole studio full of equipment but 1 camera, reflector and 1 light and you have yourself enough to do amazing things. I am learning to keep things simple.

  • Some people don't want to spend their time setting up and tweaking lighting settings. Time is money. Not to mention situations in which you don't have much time or control.

  • If it's out of your budget it's probably no for you. $450 for TTL for pros is absolutely nothing. I'm not a pro and I've spent 3 and even 4 times that on a single lens. Pro's spend 10-20 times more than that for camera bodies. $450 is _nothing_ to get this kind of control remotely. Oh and Canon doesn't make these, they're just for Canon cameras.

  • :) TTL is just soooo boring...

  • LoL ok sounds a little slated that way.

  • Don't know who said that. Wasn't me.

I just like manual. It wasn't a flash attack or something.

  • Who said I don't know how to use manual control? I have 2 power packs and 3 mono lights that I use a hand held meter. but I'm getting really good at setting up lights on the first shot. I have normal pocket wizards that I bought back when they were just blue but still work to this day. That's why I said so what if its TTL not worth it!

  • just get cactus remotes and learn to flash with manual settings...
