http://bit.ly/hd4Tsh The law of necessity and surplus states that a person has individual and social desires, and how one uses one's social desires determines whether there is harmony or imbalance on personal and global scales.
Transcript of the Video:
A human being's desires can only be fulfilled according to their natural purpose.
An individual has physical desires and social desires.
Physical desires can be fulfilled by the individual. Their purpose is survival.
On the other hand, social desires can only be fulfilled through others. Their purpose is the survival of the society.
When an individual uses their social desires selfishly, it leads to a never-ending pursuit of more. On the global level, this creates social, economic and political imbalance.
One can choose to fulfill their social desires in two ways - for themselves or for the whole.
Obviously, choosing global benefit as the aim balances the global surplus, creating positive results at all levels.
Character: But the sad thing is, we are all addicted to the surplus.

Right, but a sufficiently wise person will realize the effects of his actions before he performs them. His view of "self" expands to include all beings, not just one organism.

That's not always true. Lots of people donate to charities voluntarily, and every nation (including this one) has collectivist policies to one extent or another.

Selfishness and selflessness only show the intention of some action, not the effect of the action. If the action is intended for others, then it can be considered selfless even though it still effects you positively. In the same way, selfish acts can unintentionally help others, but the act itself was still performed for selfish reasons.

But you see, this will never happen. And because humans are naturally selfish. Like it or not, it's true. Therefore Capitalism works better because it actually works in line with the human nature of wanting more instead of against it, which has only caused strife and hardships where it has been implemented.
941254, this isn't just America. If third-world countries were transformed into industrialized nations with comparable wealth, the people would behave the same way. It's human nature.

But they are a part of the society as a whole, so it would still be selfish.

If people get rid of their selfishness to change the world for themselves, then it is still selfish. But if they change themselves because they truly want the society as a whole to be better, then it isn't selfish.
Problem is, that rarely, if ever, happens.

Yep, too much individualism is just as bad as too much collectivism.
Getting rid of selfishness won't do much though, since it's the selfish desire to live in a good world that leads one to change it for the better.

This confirms that socialism and Communism are indeed good doctrines.
Just look at America -
Costco = Surplus
Big Cars = Surplus
Fat People = Surplus
Huge Army = Surplus
Globalization Ambition = Surplus
Therefore America in its current form = SURPLUS
