I agree, the diagnosis of conversion disorder isn't a diagnosis. as there is no scientific evidence that conversion disorder even exists. It is a medical dogma that is accepted without any evidence. The problem is even if it turns out I have Lyme disease, even this isn't properly understood in this country and the USA. So even if I get a diagnosis from the private doctor I am seeing, it is unlikely to be accepted by my friends at the national!

Ive got a neurological condition too, I was treated at great ormond street but been referred to NHNN now too.

The Rosenhan study relates to what you suggest about psychiatric labels, about them always being there, therefore being treated differently and not seriously.

Should take a look at the study when you have time :)

They tell all of us this.. I was told to go see a good psychiatrist and the clinic has some fine ones.. One asshole doctor told me I was just a dizzy blond when I complained of the lyme imbalance.. Doctors are ignorant!!! It took me diagnosing myself and continuing to see doctors until I got the proper blood test sent to Igenex..

You need to get a proper blood test.. you have the symptoms.. I can see and tell how your brain is acting when you are talking.

i have been fighting with a neurological disorder for 18 years. just this year they desided it is a conversiondisorder..I fully understand what you are going threw.

they sent me to see a traumatologest. we shall see how this goes..

I demanded and got a number of tests from the NHS after my doctor kept putting my symptoms down to anxiety. So far, my results have come back negative. Better to be a live hypochondriac than a dead one. I don't see doctors as God-like so they don't bother me. Learn about what you think you may have, write your concerns down on paper, hand it to your GP and say that you have a copy of the letter. I did this and got a referral within a week! Most GPs don't deserve the deference they receive.

Oh My Gosh!! I understand you, I could not figure out why in the United States, they doctor said I had Lyme Disease, and the State Social Doctor to represent the state said the only way he would grant my disability even though I have been bed bound due to Lyme since 2006 , the Judge signed me as Psychiatric...now this doctor never checked me only represented the state... .. I wondered why if I had lyme why did I go psychiatrist ?? when it is Lyme Disease , whats up???.. arrrrggghhhhh

Please don't let so-called healthcare professionals wear you down. I have Lyme disease and had to go out of state for help. My doctor gave me my life back. During the time I was going through treatment, I decided to write a brochure on Lyme disease. My Lyme specialist proof read it and gave his approval. I email the brochure to anyone interested. My Lyme doc's name is listed at the end. There are many caring Lyme specialists but Dr. J is my hero. He appears in the film: UNDER OUR SKIN.

Don't be discouraged please. Doctors are not Gods. There are tests still that can be done to check for anti gad, ck, and dye tests that can be done for neurotransmitter deseases. My husband, Michael , got sick over 20 years ago..lost his balance center in his brain, and back then..they tried to tell him it was psychological and he just prooved them all wrong, unfortunately. Notice i said , unfortunately? His life is being taken from him.. I wish it had been that. Keep your chin up... smile

What arrogance that if current NHS tests can't find what's wrong, then it must be psychiatric - as if medical science (even NHS medical science) now knows everything! How very rich the psychiatric profession must be getting from this attitude.

The NHS Lyme test is useless.

I've been housebound with severe M.E. & fibromyalgia for 20 years & have just been privately diagnosed with both Lyme disease and cryptostrongylus pulmoni (microscopic lung worms).
