The first sentence of the constitution says that the Federal govt's roles include "insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare." The role of congress included the founding of the post office, and the raising of a military. Furthermore, the amendments gave the Federal govt the power to protect the rights of the people, abolish slavery, abolish alcohol, and eliminate state poll taxes. So, there is a lot more to the Fed Govt than interstate commerce.

That is the states responsibility. Read our founding documents and you would realize our FEDERAL governments only job is to regulate interstate commerce. Why do you think that in 96 the FEDERAL no guns on school campus law was thrown out because a man took it to the supreme court and they ruled that the law was invalid because it did not have anyhting to do with interstate commerce.

I've been looking for the supposed plan, but I have yet to find anything on it. Please provide a link. The plan Obama has been promoting this week is a government run insurance company that competes with the private insurance companies, and it is not mandatory. I'd be happy to comment on the Clinton once I can read over it, but I've done several searches and all they turn up is the 1993 plan.

Somehow I don't think a massive workers strike is going to force all employers to provide insurance. That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. What about placing a child in protective custody from an abusive parent? Or do you believe that not the government's business either? I can hear you now "If the child doesn't want to get beat they should move out. It's not the govt's responsibility." The constitution allows the Govt to run a military, make laws, and guarantee rights.
