by the way, i don't want to shoot old people. look at plant: his voice was so absurdly high, and he was 19 at the height of his power and fame, he's changed, so he doesn't go around screaming 'whole lotta love' and risking a heart attack, he plays country music, he's changed his reportoire. i also love lou reed, iggy, jagger, it's just that they can afford it, bono is risking his health

trust me i'm a major and dedicate bowie fan, and i can tell when he really shouldn't sing, i'm not afraid in criticising artists i bought music/art/films etc, it's not that they're god or something, also because god doesn't exist. david bowie can be horrible and out of breath in the most annoying way. he certainly was in 1987, and somehow he tried to do several tours that were artistically successful in the nineties and that's it.

I do agree however that the two albums prior to ''No Line On The Horizon' are not in the same league as other albums they have done infact, i never even bought these albums, Atomic Bomb turned me cold on first hearing and yes Brian Eno for me gives U2 something incredible in terms of texture and sound and he's like the 5th member of U2 much like George Martin was really the 5th Beatle.

Yeah but Led Zep's Robert Plant who had that terrific scream and power in his voice couldn't reach the high notes even before Led Zep were no more, Bowie can't sing Life on Mars the same as he could is his early 20's but to say these ppl should retire is utterly rediculous. Do you shoot old ppl just because they don't function the way they used to ?

You are almost saying we should have no rock singers over the age of say 30!

thing is, the album's really great and brave and classic at the same time, classic eno, i mean. they still produce great music. although this can't be said for the previous 2 lps.

thing is: he can't sing anymore, it's not about being mature. come on! why deny it? proof on file! his falsetto's gone, forever, and the emission of his voice doesn't move a feather anymore. and yes, michael jackson had plastic surgery.

They are far from old, to still be making groundbreaking music shows they are fresh and alive, maybe you should use the word 'mature' instead?

i'm not talking about the arrangement of the song and the sound of a up to date and stylish equipment, but they're slow and bono's tired, he's just older, it's ok. they're old. and they're not the stones. but the song is always incredible.

Anyway what i came here to say was the version i heard in 1987 shows how the band have matured as musicians and how different the song projection sounds now compared to the Joshue Tree tour.
