i don't think that's what driscol's saying. in preaching, mars hill (where driscol is a preaching pastor) is probably one of the fewer congregations that are strict in biblical theology. given nothing is perfect, but they contextualize the bible in a way that is faithful to the given text (the bible) and never "changed to please people" to make "attractive in the worlds eyes". believe it or not, mars hill is probably one of the few bible saturated, Jesus loving church's out there.

Moreover, 1 Co. 9 has nothing to do with contextualizing the gospel, although it is very often used to justify such a thing.
Paul is talking about his rights as an apostle, and when he says that he became "all things to all men" he is talking about he relinquished his freedom to the law, even though when he was free to the law: "Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible" (1 Co. 9:19). HE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT CONTEXTUALIZE THE MESSAGE.

Mark Driskoll, don't be deceitful, you are confusing people. In the examples which you gave, the cultural contextualizing was never related to the message, so don't use them to justify such undertaking. It's obvious that it doesn't matter the clothes we wear (unless if it is sensual) or the language we speak. But it does matter the message we preach, it never must be changed to please people or to make the gospel of Jesus Christ more "attractive" in world's eyes.

Mark Driscoll his giving HIS interpretation - its not the only one. His attitide to women is a concern.......and men evidently have to hunt drive a pick up and fight each other? He's an intelligent guy but comes over as biggoted

This dude is right on.If everyone agreed with him...I would question his motives. To you that disagree with him...back it up with scripture not opinion. And learn some church history before you shoot you text off. God bless you.
