When St Piran landed from Ireland on Perranporth beach to bring Christianity to Cornwall, he must've been gagging for a beer.
Step forward two millenia to the sound of the rattling of glasses and the haunting beauty of the whistle and bhodrum echoing across Perran Bay and he would be amazed. You can read more about him on my travel blog at http://www.travel-blog.org.uk for now here is Mad Dog MCrea straight out of 'Gangs of New York' playing a blend of Irish, Cornish, Celtic, Folk Rock, live at the Watering Hole Perranporth Cornwall.

  • Thanks for telling me the song name. I knew someone would sooner or later. If they're ever down here again I'm going to film them properly - the should be much more famous!!

  • cool sound

  • the lead guy has excellent taste in headwear.

  • im 16 and my mates think im crazy for liking this music but just listen to it its insane jay-z eat your heart out ! i just wish i was in perranporth for this gig as i go there every year ! bummer !

  • I used to spend a lot of time in Perranporth many years ago and loved it, although obviously I never saw these guys there. I rather wish I had. This is a very good version of the Lonesome Boatman on a low D whistle if I am not mistaken (and I frequently am). Excellent stuff.
