This video demonstrates using the Grid-in-Hand™ Mobile Grid app running on a Samsung Galaxy Tab to collect RFID tag data from GEN2 Bluetooth RFID reader, and send the data via the Internet as an Excel spreadsheet.
This same Mobile Grid process can be used with other RFID readers and barcode scanners available from Serialio.com
First turn on the RFID reader by pressing the power button. The RFID reader will be in Bluetooth discoverable mode, use the Menu - Connect option to connect the RFID reader. When connected pick the type of GEN2 tags you will read. TID is Tag ID, and EPC is Electronic Product Code. Then pick the format you want the data to be recorded in the grid. You can use HEX or ASCII. In this example we will use EPC and ASCII modes to demonstrate reading several different tags.
We have setup the EPC information on several RFID tags to reflect the tag type and we will scan each of these tags into Mobile Grid. Tags can be read two ways, by pressing a button to read each tag, or in constant read mode. First we will read the RFID tags using the press-to-read mode. As you can see reading tags is a snap, just press the trigger, and the tag data is quickly posted.
When you want to read multiple tags quickly, enable constant read mode. For constant read mode some readers like the FS901 require a trigger, so Mobile Grid notifies the user that the trigger feature has been enabled.
With constant read mode duplicate tags are normally ignored. If you want to allow duplicate tag reads enable this feature and specify how frequently Mobile Grid should post the same tag. Return to the grid view, and trigger the scanner, and read all the tags.
Once you have the desired tags captured, tap Menu - Upload Grid and your grid will be sent immediately, or when the network is available.

  • Is it possible to simply pair the RFID reader with the device, and have it as an identifiable input device which can be selected as preferred input into custom android apps?

  • @phekz0r There are many options and an API with SerialMagic Gears.

Please provide clarification for what you need, or contact Serialio.com for clarification.

  • @phekz0r Yes that's possible. In fact, that's what SerialIO is doing. The device shown here is actually the TagMaster TM901 Gemia which SerialIO has developed applications for.
