Just a quick vid to show the progress of my first three bottles of Finnish Sugar Wine, aka Kilju. More info about it can be found on Wikipedia. These bottles were made to see how practical (and cost-effective) home brewing Kilju is.

The bottles appear really dark, but in fact are quite bright (think solo-yellow bright). The first bottle was made on the 27th of November, the other two on the 28th.

The bottles used are cleaned and sterilized glass bottles of premix. The first-day airlock is a tissue/tissues and a rubber band, this allows the mixture to remain unpressurised. Second-day onwards, a pin-pricked balloon is used to avoid a pressure build-up, while keeping the mix safe from contaminants.

The filtration method is a Kambrook water filter. This will [hopefully] remove impurities and sediment. If I get clear enough results, I'll be moving up to a larger jug, better airlock, and a Brita filter.

  • hienoa, mulla on menossa tequilaa. sokerin sijasta agavea

  • @allu771 on tehokkaampaa täällä Australiassa ostaa alkoholia. Tämä oli minun viimeinen yritys. Kiitos katsomassa!

  • @wiruwill oletko suomalainen vai käytitkö google translatea?

  • @allu771 Ei, Australian. Google Translate on suuri. :)

  • @wiruwill I thought so, Google Translate is not too good at translating English in to Finnish ;D Try fruits. They really change the flavor but make sure you dont have any peels, they might contain wild yeasts that might contaminate it :D How was it.

  • @allu771 yeah, same in Japanese, too. Berries are good for this, but what I made tasted pretty bad, so I just buy my alcohol at the store now. No more waiting ;)

How bad are the taxes for alcohol in Finland?

  • @wiruwill Bad. The government has a monopoly over alcohol but its still easier to buy it than make it. It might taste bad, you have to take your time and purify it in this really complicated way. Going to a liquor store is way easier definitely!

  • namia tulloo

  • only brewing is all. no distilling.
