Interview with Trent Reedy author of "Words in the Dust"

Author and former Soldier Trent Reedy speaks about his experiences in Afghanistan and how they inspired him to write his new novel "Words in the Dust". A former high school English teacher from a small town in Iowa, Trent joined the National Guard to get money for college. At the time he never could have imagined a few years later his country would be at war and he would be on the front line. Far away from the lush green countryside of Iowa Trent would find find himself and his mindset transformed by the humble and hardworking people who attempted to scrape by in a dusty desert town in western Afghanistan nicknamed "Hell City". This is a story of hopes destroyed and hopes reborn, of the unimaginable twists and turns that life can take. Of the dramatic changes, some for the best and some not, that can take place based on the most random of events. It is also the story of a promise made by the author to a young Afghan girl to tell her story and be her voice to the world.
