Perhaps you have seen tests in wind tunnels when they spray smoke on the models? The smoke goes around the model, right? If the particles were heavier and falling vertically, they would hit the windshield and leave a residue, exactly like rain.

After the fuel probe separates and a mist of gas sprays the planes windshield, does the spray of fuel leave an oily residue on the windshield making it difficult to see?

Forget the fighters, I have wanted to fly an A-10 since I was a kid. Sadly, my eyesight disqualifies me from flight school.
