Sorry that I had to speed this up, you might not be able to tell what I am doing so I will try and explain in the description what I am doing at which time.

Okay, first off thank you to http://www.flickr.com/photos/43404389@N04/ for letting me use this image.

Well, I will start very briefly explaining, and if there is anything not understood just ask :)

When I am doing the neck shadow thingo, and most other shadows, I am painting them in black, blurring and erasing so they're only where I want them, then reducing the layer to about 20 (definitely depending on the wanted intensity) and putting it on overlay, I then duplicate it and have it on normal, on the same opacity. This applies for most pictures but sometimes due to skin tones and such, either more normal or more overlay need apply.

For the rest of the video, if I am not actually repainting the area (as seen around the nose) I am using adjustment layers, mostly curves, and masking them for highlights/lowlights (trying to distinguish between this and shadows). I put it up or down really high then on a low opacity, though this is just a personal preference, and when i paint it in I use a very low opacity, especially for highlights, say around 5-10%. -OH! Usually when doing lowlights I will ctrl (well command o_O) click the layer which selects it (well you know how that works!) well click the mask, then open a hue/saturation adjustment layer and bring the saturation down. When doing highlights I've found it's best to do the same, but increase the saturation, as this technique can make highlights look really white which I've found is less than desirable :P

I don't really know what else to say, other than the original is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizzypants/5217308883/ and this is what I ended up with: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36117244@N05/5237133451/

Note, this video doesn't cover the making of the entire picture, but simply gives some insight into the way I work. I also made some changes to parts of the face, mainly in the form of highlighting more since recording this. Tyvm, bai :)

  • @ShroomMasta2009 I'm guessing this is the part where I'm supposed to go on an all caps rage, swear at you and blurt out the best mom insult I can think of. You know, for someone who is supposedly 30 years of age, you act like a fucking twat. I found it quite funny how you can't think of a reply so you retaliate back to the mom insults. Good one.

  • Can you make a step by step video on how you do the shadowing?
