This is a song clip from an episode of "The Brady Kids"; a Saturday morning cartoon series from Filmation in 1972, and a spinoff of the ABC-TV show "The Brady Bunch. Notice how the animation of The Brady Kids singing and playing instruments is a redo of how The Archies sang and played instruments in their music clips. Even though the two series were on difference channels (Archies on CBS; Brady Kids on ABC), I can't believe that Filmation would think that we would not notice this. Even most of the backgrounds were reused between the two series.

Most of Filmation's library is currently owned by Classic Media. I do not know if The Brady Kids is one of their properties or not. Either way, this clip is the property of whomever currently owns the series.

  • Don't you just love how Bobby can make cymbal sounds without a cymbal?

  • @AFandhisOrchestra It was a sound effect on Jan's organ.

  • to people younger than 30, this cartoon is well beneath your expectations, but to the kids of the 70s , who werent weaned on computers , 3-D, and CGI ,we were grateful for what we got, which were good stories and dramatic presentation. Enthusiasm and imagination went a long way in those days..

  • @nealadams70 I'm definitely "old school".... I will always prefer hand drawn animation to CGI. No contest.

  • To answer your question, windsorbear, it's actually owned by CBS, who owns the original Brady Bunch series as well.

  • @HowieP Thanks. I did a google search for the Brady Bunch properties shortly after uploading that video. Seems CBS has no plans at this time for officially releasing "The Brady Kids" to home video. Oh well.....

  • Cindy on guitar? I can't picture that.

  • @nealadams70 ohhh myyy, now i am feeling my age ,,, ready to rock to those i grew up with ... just make sure the floor does not creek . and i have my cane close .

  • @demoskunk As I continue to preach, it wasnt just about animation....it was about the presentation , the music, the script, etc...70s cartoons worked under budgetary restriction, so creativity was the key.NEVER cared much for Japanimation ...the art was good , but the translating ticked me off...

i got so sick of all the 'ah!' and 'heh' and 'ooahh' they used to fill up the gaps in dialogue...

  • @nealadams70 Yes, the 70s did have a lot of great animation, but none of it was to be found on American TV, I've gotta say. Japan was the source of the greatest animated shows of that decade.

I grew up watching Star Blazers and the drama of that show still holds up better than most of today's slick, CG-ladden cartoons.

  • Its get worse more they in archie's car too drivin it ole betsy i believe archie called his car.......

  • @nealadams70 I'm 23, I can't say i hate this one bit and a I'm a huge vintage freak.

  • a number of 70s cartoons had musical sequences - - the archies, josie and the pussycats, the brady kids, scooby doo where are you, groovy ghoulies. likewise for several live-action shows, e.g. lancelot linc, the bugaloos, banana splits. which ones am i forgetting?
