  • Personally I use the Beta52 in the studio and the D6 live. I think the Beta52 is a little more natural sounding for my taste and I can sculpt it a little more with EQ and compression to get the desired sound for an individual track. I like the D6 for live gigs just in case there is a "less experienced" front of house engineer at the gig. It is hard to mess up the D6. The D6 is great in the studio too though especially for a more aggressive sound.

  • I would have to agree with you there, although it does sound great on floor toms and some bass cabs.

  • Good idea, but doesn't really help not knowing where the microphones are placed. All the same? The Octava and the Ksm are room style mics that aren't really designed to go in a port/too close to the head. The D4 is also an unusual choice. It was eclipsed by the D6 and the only non-condenser small diaphragm mic. Maybe re-edit the video to show each mic's placement. Input levels would help as well, unless all are at 0dB.(might be a good idea to mention it anyway) Otherwise a valiant stab.

  • @kitkid77 All of the mics were placed at the same spot....right at the port. I agree with you on the Oktava, but the KSM27 would actually work great as a kick drum mic. The D4 is not an unusual choice. It was the only "kick drum mic" that Audix offered for years before the release of the D6. All input levels are at 0dB.

  • D6! If you say anything else you have hearing problems!

  • Thank You. On my way through, I learned a bit. =)

  • I think they all have their place but I would go with the D6 or the 52 for more modern music. Also the D6 sounds great in the back of a guitar cab when recording metal bands! :)

  • D4 IMO

  • Used a D6 kick drum mic today to record guitar sounds from a 5150 amp. Surprizingly great sound. D6 is more versatile than they let on.

  • @AlanM11Drums alright sounds good thanx

  • @MELLOW4RMBUZZED D6 for an "artificial" Metal, clicky, Present sound, Beta 52 for a little more organic sound

  • D6 all the way

  • I heard a rumor that Skrillex uses kick drum mics for his bass?!?!?

  • Beta52 -> natural, i almost hear the wood vibrating, implies broader use

D6 -> more 'ready' sound, and specific

Al the other -> kind of exciting .. could use them to experiment.
