That's HD for Hard Drive not High Def.
You're not really a geek until you've taken apart an old hard drive and wired it up to your iPod.

The coil that is used to move the arm in the hard drive is similar to that in a speaker. Running music through the coil vibrates the pickup arm. It's vibrating the arm left to right so unfortunately the plates in the hard drive do little to amplify the sound.
