I think I saw a promo pic of RE5 that had a Plaga-infested canine that did just that. The Colmillos from RE4 just had tendrils but the RE5 pic had the dog's head and neck up to its shoulder split in two.

@ 1:30 that dog reminds me of a movie called The Thing...almost exactly the same...except for when the dog's face splits open like a 4 piece blooming onion.
