The concept behind the Communal Living building is the ideology that a building can provide an eco-friendly, low maintenance, community orientated, thermally and aesthetically comfortable building. The inspiration for this form and programmatic outcome was from the context of the disadvantage area and the numerous tall and skinny trees scattered around the site. The form represents a safe haven and evolves from the site by using the existing retaining wall and stairs giving the impression that it is morphing out of the site. The communal eco roof can be used for growing crops which can be used by the locals or the cafe along with the many thermal benefits of having a eco roof. The gardening workshop acts as a catalyse for a community based activity that is socially and environmentally sustainable
