This is the third virtue in the series of a character-based code of ethics for law enforcement and correctional officers. Foul language and coarse talk is pervasive within the law enforcement culture and it is often justified as a coping mechanism or street language that is necessary for dealing with street criminals. In reality, these are lame excuses to justify unprofessionalism and a lack of vocabulary. If we don't clean up our language, the courts are likely to do it for us.
