@091053JG i dont really think the yardbirds had a 'problem' .They were the Yardbirds for Chrissakes!. they got up and did it. They changed the sound of music. Perhaps invented 'Rock' as it became known. Perhaps they had just the writing talent for the job in hand. And a fine job they did! They didn't have the musichall fun streak that the other bands you mentioned had. But that was their way , and that's why there were subsequently morose , heavy bands like Led Zep,Deep purple, Stooges etc etc

Keith had to sing with only one lung. When he got enough air in I think he had a good voice actually! Plus great presence on stage, fabulous harp..... can't blame for feeling bit depressed at times because of his poor health....

I love the Yardbirds, the only problem they had as a band was that they did not have the great in-house songwriting talent (think Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Pete Townshend, Ray Davies).
