I secretly put this video together to propose to my girlfriend, and screened it at our local cinema in front of all my friends, some unsuspecting patrons, and my totally unaware girlfriend.

It took over a month of filming, hiring a voice actor, and coordination with the cinema to get everything just right for the big day - but it all worked perfectly.

We arrived at the cinema around 6:15 and Sian started to get worried as she could feel how fast my heart was beating. She knew I was up to no good - but had no idea what was in store.

When the lights dimmed and the trailer started she almost instantly recognized my silhouette next to the "nervous man productions" title, but quickly thought that it was ridiculous to assume it was anything other than a coincidence.

The narration started, and as it was playing I whispered "it sounds a little bit like us!"

When the voice-over mentioned where we were from, the game was up and Sian started gasping in surprise and then had tears streaming down her face as I read our poem about how we met.

Everyone had turned around to watch as the video ended with my proposal (that I was only able to film the afternoon before) and watched as Sian said "yes" and on bended knee I slipped the diamond ring onto her finger.

Everything worked so perfectly, and was a very special moment that both Sian and I will treasure forever. It wouldn't have been possible without the help of Larry Wayne the voice over guy, Helen Shih the Marketing Manager of BCC, Bob Burton the projectionist, my mate Matt who filmed the beach scene, and the rest of the crew at Birch Carol and Coyle Darwin.

I had organised the Northern Territory News to run the story and also a multimedia film of Sian's reaction, and both should appear on the website either Friday or Saturday.

We never stayed to watch the movie - after our interview with the paper we celebrated with a bottle of champagne, and then I took my new fiancée to 'Peewees' - one of the nicest restaurants in Darwin - for a romantic dinner by the water.
