  • My Mom loved the Lifetime movie and I'm getting her the book soon. I couldn't get through five minutes of it without wanting to be sick.

  • @sexayassmusic They already did...15 years ago.

  • OMG i have to read this book, hollywood better not try and fuck this up with a movie.

  • Both the movie and the book are graphic on different levels. With the book, you visualize what's going on in your head, and Dorothy is very good with descriptions. But in the movie, you don't have to visualize it. It's right there, being played out for you.

  • I'm so sorry about that @Alixblood. I do think some people are waking up to the reality because brave souls like Dorothy Allison are telling their stories.

If you can, tell yours. You will probably make someone feel less alone. And there is no shame in telling your story because you didn't do anything wrong!

Stay strong. Even the act of recovery is a brave one :)

  • What a brilliant vibrant beautiful woman. She's a national treasure.

  • Wow, I really wish ppl would realize that incest happens in more homes then we think. It happened in my home and I'm still recovering from the trauma =[

  • It's sad that it's easier for the unwashed masses to stay ignorant to incest and child abuse than it is for them to be educated about the problem and face it head on. Ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away, you'd think that our species would have realized that by now?

  • great author. it's sad her book gets banned virtually everywhere

  • Maybe it wasn't at the exact same event, but it was in that town. She mentioned it was a high school gymnasium, while the event I went to was at a college auditorium. It was a long time ago, so maybe she just got some of the details mixed up, too.
