A rare clip from Dave Allen when he appears on the Des O'Connor show in 1996. His rendition of Noah is, as always dry and cutting but funny

  • @Saiaton: Lol.

  • The main problem with Dave Allen is that I can only watch him for about 2 minutes, he is that genuinely funny and natural with it, he just cracks me up, I have to watch his clips in short stages in between laughing my head off, so funny, great timing and he delivers it in that great Irish accent.

  • @Filipusus4 I've just been checking, and I realise where I went wrong. Dave Allen had his first TV appearance in 1959. My bad!

  • You either like him or you don't. He was bound to offend some folk. I always assumed he knew what what he was doing. His good stuff was brilliant. Some must have been near the knucle.(as recent events have proved). Better than being dry or stuffy. A breath of fresh air. Rest in peace.

  • @robbo3166 You are wrong. They both started in 1956-7 or so but i think that is not really important...They were both great, i prefer Allen more but thats only a matter of opinion.

  • @robbo3166 Carlin started in the late 50's but it would be years before his signature, edgy style would develop. Regardless, they were on opposite sides of the planet, so it's unlikely that they took any inspiration from each other and their styles were still unique, if similar. Carlin was more beat poet evangelist, whereas Dave was more introspective and a story teller.

  • robin harper snp

  • @mixerD1 Wrong. Carlin started around the mid-50's, Allen started around the early/mid-60's. But both fantastic!

  • He's right where he says (another clip) that the English sense of humour is different. Irish & French more take plausible situations and find what's crazy about it, where English prefer to push the situation to absurdity like a cartoon. Maybe it's because there are so many crazy people in Ireland!

  • Ahhh i remember his comedy well. Many thanks for all the great tear jerking laughs... and may your god go with you!
