I think biological weapons are the most efficient. They are cheaper than nukes and bombardment. A few viruses can quickly multiply. Plus, it won't harm the planet, so they can still claim their prize.

if a distant race did decide to attack us we'd be screwed a race that would have had to have mastered space flight would also most probably have weapons that would make our nukes as effective as stones against a tank

Which had you rather have Life or Death. War means DEATH. Right now there are enough N weapons to destroy most life. We can spend all our money on death machines or how about life. Spend all that money on life & the sciences of life to stretch our lives out hundreds or thousands of years perhaps no end to personal life. I Choose Life. If aliens were interested in us enough to make contact, which they're probably not, they would be benevolent beings. However, if they did wanna wipe us out we wouldn't stand a chance. Just dump a few hundred tons of nanobots in our atmosphere and everyone on the planet would end up a goo stain in their recliners. Unfortunately, they're just gonna sit back and let all the religious nuts do it for them. We don't stand a chance against ourselves much less super-intelligent aliens.

I was referring to the ideas, structure and tenets of the Bible rather than the fact that it was written by men to record the wishes and reasoning of a deity. From the results of my readings in both pro and against church and the bible I have reached this conclusion. This is my belief.

I did not mean to insult your beliefs, but I won't consider any holy book as a basis of whether we're alone in this universe or not. As a different perspective or additional information though, it's fine.

Be informed and choose what you have to believe. Trust facts whose credibility you yourself have established and make decisions based on these facts.

As for technologically capable alien races, they may or may not exist and they and their technology and combat systems may have any form and operate in any possible (or even humanly impossible) manner. This way of thinking prepares us for just a small range of possibilities and may avail us very little or not at all, unless against a human enemy..
