A powerful letter about the Native American perspective on ownership of our Earth.

Chief Seattle of the Duwamish Tribe wrote the following letter to President Pierce after the US Government offered to buy the land where his people lived in 1854 (current day Washington State).

Reading and reflection by Deepak Chopra. Created for Earth Day New York, 2010.

  • Being in tune one knows this at there core.

  • This is pretty said but pretty cool 😄

  • Too bad Chief Seattle never made this speech. It was written in the 70s by a screenwriter named Ted Perry.

  • This makes me think about how Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering America when there were already people here. It's disgusting how people can force other people off of land and claim it as there own. But... to be honest, at the risk of sounding like a dick, we aren't giving it back.

  • This is certainly a beautiful, inspiring poem embodying just what Ted Perry wanted when he wrote the text for the 1972 film HOME. I love the sentiment and concepts as much now as I did before learning that it was not written by Chief Seattle. Before I get flamed by my fellow environmentalists, please Google "ted perry chief seattle" and discover for yourselves.

What is disappointing to me is that Mr. Chopra has lent his imprimatur to perpetuating a fiction, calling his integrity to question.

  • Deepak Chopra does very well as a narrator

  • deepak chopra does no good as a narrator

  • Native American have a wonderful philosophy of life...truth !!! Peace from France !!!

  • Were his shiny glasses part of the process? His glasses cost more than your vegetable oil powered car. Do you people know he is an interest holder in a comic book company (his son "Gotham" is as well)? No...it was Virgin Comics, LLC (with Richard Branson), but was changed after a management coup.

  • i've read the essay before and it's so powerful...
