Now i wanna live on a boat!!! i love this video... i was thinking of building a rest house near the shore but upon seeing this video i changed my mind.. i'll make a boat instead.. :)

Went on a longboat hols when I was young and loved it. Would love to live on a longboat now. Wonder how much a half decent one would cost? and do you have to pay to move around like tolls or paying for locks or can you roam the country for free.???

The wildlife are hilarious once they get to know you. I have Ducks and Geese that come over every day to get food.

@rightfredsdead Not many gulls on canals and I'm not really sure how you'd get the rocking motion of a boat in a flat but I'm sure you have some ideas ;) S x

@rightfredsdead Absolutely right. A friend of mine bought her boat without even trying one night on one and she's very happy but I would suggest that anyone thinking of this does a LOT of research preferably including hiring a boat to see if it suits them. Oh, and there are some days where it goes fantastically well and some days when you curse the day you ever thought of it. Fortunately the latter are very few! S x
I know exactly what you mean! I actually had three geese that were my 'bodyguards'. Fantastic as every time anyone came near my boat at night, they would chase them away. S x

Hi, it costs a fortune to hire a boat, depending on where you are in the country and the length of the boat but basically you're looking at hundreds of pounds per week, much, much more expensive than buying your own. Just google to get phone numbers etc.
Perhaps you could look into a timeshare buy or a boat mortgage? Beware boats that are sold cheaper than they should be and ALWAYS get a survey with the boat out of the water, always!
Best of luck,
Sx

@ShootThru Yes it would seem that I have mis-characterized your life of living on the water...The key to my concern was seeing the stillness of the water in your vid...With that quiet a water, my concern of misquitos?? is very high..Also the opposite would be true..too close to a river so you get the full effect of swells & wave action. Is mold or mildew ....high humidity, a problem aboard a live-a-board???

@RichardEllisxyz
Hi again, the stillness of the water is due to the fact that the films were shot on canals. As it happens, there is also a river running quite close to the canal. There are midges at dusk but that's what spiders are for! Only seen a few mosquitos and they didnt last long. No swells or waves apart from the occasional idiotic hire boater as the speed limit is to ensure your wake doesn't break. Mould etc is easily prevented by ensuring good airing of your bedding etc. Sx
