That is couple who are married for over 50 years and they must be both in 80s now. He sold his horse race track and some of the money went to the 5 hospitals in Hamilton who serve an area of 2.2 million. This is his legacy and the cancer treatment hospital is now named after him.
43 million just from a married couple.
The rest of Hamilton donated $59 million for those 5 hospitals and the government spent $188 million on the 5 hospitals.
Total: $290 million

The Dundas couple has already given $8 million to Hamilton Health Sciences --
$5 million to support redevelopment of the Juravinski Cancer Centre, $2 million to help build Hamilton General Hospital's new state-of-the-art cardiac operating rooms and $1 million to establish a surgical fellowship fund. In total, the Juravinskis have donated $43 million to health care causes in the Hamilton region.

Always keen to encourage others to give, the Juravinskis' $15 million gift comes with a twist. They have set aside $5 million of the $15 million as a challenge to the community. "We know that not everyone can make a big donation, but every little bit helps," said Charles Juravinski. "So, whether it's $1, $1,000 or $100,000, we'll match all the donations Hamilton Health Sciences receives between now and December 31, 2006 up to $5 million."
Well then, maybe with some of the people you mention and the fact that you worked for one of the guys when you were younger you kind of get my point. All these greedy capitalists that form corporations actually do a lot of good by providing jobs and economic opportunities for the society in which they operate. It is not a one-way benefit where they take advantage of those working for them and those in the community.

Hamilton, ON Canada -- Philanthropists Margaret and Charles Juravinski made history today. Their donation of $15 million to Hamilton Health Sciences is the largest single gift ever made to a health care organization in south central Ontario. It will support redevelopment of Henderson General Hospital, with a specific focus on enhancing the care of cancer patients.

Then when they become really successful, they do what me and you are talking about here. They give back to the community that has helped them get to where they are. It's wonderful how people help one another when left free to do so. It does still happen despite a general lack of faith in humanity by socialists everywhere.
