  • 2:24 The significance of that shot (other than it's a cool picture) is the pilot is wearing no leather flight helmet, only his Army AirCorp hat & headset. The epitamy of cool back then. One does not realize though how loud those sons of bitches were on the inside. Imagine jackhammers next to your ears. For hours on end. The noise was deafening. It's amazing the pilots were able to take it.

Alway MANY thanks for your input and astute observations...

  • 1:58 Don Gentile, left, & his wingman John Godfrey, one of the most successful leader/wingman teams to prowl the skies. Gentile survives the war only to perish taking off in a Lockeed P-80 Shooting Star. He was 31. Godfrey survives the war also but succumbs to Lou Gehrigs at the age of 36. Fate.

  • @kolbpilot - Thanks For The Info... Check Out "The Two - Man Air Force..!"

  • Wonderful, wonderful video, both subject matter & song choice. What a time that had to of been. 1939 to 1945. The sheer number of airplanes involved. Of any of the big players, pick your favorite. The Americans were King of the Hill by 1944. Both in quality of airframe & pilot, in involved in the last big air war of all time. To me, the pic at 1:41 says it all. Even more cool because it's a shot of a B-26, the 'Baltimore Whore'. No matter what country one flew for in WW2, it was a crap shoot.

  • @kolbpilot - Thank You, I Appreciate Your Input..!

  • 'Big Bastard' at 2:48 was taken in Iceland, 14Jun44. Probably had landing gear failure at its fuel stop, while enroute to the Big Show.

  • Beautiful vidio. My father served in the Army Air Corp in WWII - so proud of him -wish I could talk with him today. This nation's GREATEST GENERATION . We must never ever forget their sacrifice.

  • Beautiful video. My own grandfather was in the infantry but he had pilot friends. Sadly they all passed away but your video brought a smile to my face thinking about these men when they were young.
