The combustion productions from the foam are there, but the reaction is not as violent as sometimes observed. There are a few reasons for this:
1. The permeability of this green sand is sufficient enough to allow much of the gas to escape without a volcano effect.
2. The cope and drag don't fit together perfectly and so some gas can escape along the parting line.
If this were a steel pour in our foundry, the reaction would be more volcano like.
