From 1992 - 2007, computers have undergone an incredible transformation as virtual world generators. From a time when it would take days to render 15 seconds, we now look at the fodder of computer games entering the market that mock the computer hardware of only a decade and a half ago.

The incredible progress of transistor technology, die shrinkage, photo lithography, software, GPUs, etc have been immense. To look back over such a short period of time in most other industries would be seem almost insignificant. Not so in the realm of the computer industry.

We have come so far, yet we have so much further to go. When we look over the horizon, what do we see?

GPGPUs. 32micron. Multiple scalable CPUs on one die. Increased parallelism in code via threads, virtualisation and smarter programming.

Are you ready for the next 15 years?

Special thanks to the following corporations whose imagery was used to form this video compilation:
IBM, Microsoft Corporation, Sony Computer Entertainment, Nvidia, Intel, AMD, ATI, Apple Computer, Konami, Guerrilla Games, Crytek, Ubisoft / Dunia team, Bungie, Commodore Computers, Atari.
