Overuse of the lips is what distorts the vowel and the sound. Pharyngeal vowels are what he should be using, and those are formed in the oropharynx.

actually... they are going the recommended tempo marking. I think. "Solemn" at 66 bpm. This may be about 57-62.

I think this might have been a liitle slow, you should try to use your lips more, this will make your diction more clear.
