@Iareto sorry but how can you compare Callas to Parcells ??? Completely different voices in sound and quality. Parcells has a small clear voice but not very powerful , which makes all the difference. their timbre is also completely different too. Dont mean to undermine Parcells as I think her voice was very free flowing and clean but Callas' technique , sound and mastery was unique.

In over 30 years of opera going I have never heard better quality singing. Wonderful voice, haunting, wonderful technique. I so regret never having seen her. Just sheer perfection in every way.

There is a Galli Curci quality to her singing, very mooving. What a Maestra!

You're right!! And then, we should shut down ALL of the opera houses because Callas (who didn't have the most beautiful sounding voice, just btw) is dead and thus NO one else can do opera. Attitudes like this are what is killing opera today.
