I give to you the world's loudest solar powered guitar amp. 230 watts max of solar modules were used to power the Marshall stack. Hardware not show in the video are the MPPT charge controller, Deep Cycle Battery, and 1500 watt pure sine wave power inverter needed to convert the DC voltages to AC necessary and to run the Marshall JCM900 100Watt Hi Gain amplifier. The amp settings are set to 10 in the power section, and 20 in the preamp section (diode circuit for additionally clipping hence the value 20). The amp uses four 5881 (ala 6l6) tubes in the power section and three ECC83 (ala 12ax7) in the preamp section. I'm sure this terrified the squirrels and deer into a certain frenzy. It most certainly shook the ground and grabbed the attention of motorist passing by.

This video was shot near Brown's Camp off of HWY 6 outside of Portland Oregon. Far away from Johnny Law man and the sound restrictions associated with modern civilizations. No citations can be written for excessive noise in the middle of a state forest.

  • The battery is always charged by the time I put any load on it. Generally it sits idle.... With 275 Watts instantaneous power from the PVs I could go for hours on the deep cycle battery I have. No issues....2 years and going strong!

  • how long can the power last?

  • @derfsanderson - No way to no for sure now....all i can say is I was at this for an hour or so and it all went of f without a hitch.

  • Cool. I actually just took my mg30, ripped out all the solidstate electronics, and replaced it with a Fender "Tremolux " 5e9 circuit. I'll have to post a video sometime....

  • It's a 75' Gold Top Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. The customs usually come in white or black and have the gold hardware. The deluxe is indicative of this 70's era Les Paul with mini humbuckers and 3 piece maple neck.

  • You do realise that boiling the kettle uses more power than most amps? Guitar amps use hardly any power in comparison to other appliances.

  • The ultimate hippy rock band

  • sweet. nice camper too

  • gobson guitar and marshall amp...you rich bastard

  • cool. i always feel a little guilty using my electric knowing i'm drawing on energy that isn't 'green'. i'd like to find some way to solar power my amp in the future (marshall jcm800)

  • would you happen to know what kind of solar system I would need to power a 5 Watt amp? specifically a Champion 600?

  • Excellent! How long does it take for you to charge up the battery to sustain the amp? And how long does the amp stay powered for on a full battery?! This is inspiring. I myself have a Marshall JCM 900 with an Orange 2x12 cab. Good work man.

  • very very cool!!!

  • @mcr07853 It's like comparing apples and oranges dude. I recently sold the 900 cause I prefer plugging into my 800/Orange cab more. It's a louder amp, all valve, no bullshit, one trick pony....But dont get me wrong the 900s a good amp too.
