The 1988 coastal law in Spain is a nationwide COASTAL LAND GRAB LAW, hot on the tail of the Valencian LAND GRAB LAW. It allows the state to NATIONALISE legal property without any monetary compensation. They force you to accept a concession to live there until you die. According to the Spanish government representative Alicia Paz the courts support the ownership robbery in 97 percent of the cases so the PNALC pressure group had to take the issue to the European Union where the Petitions committee accepted the complaint and are now preparing a report on our claims of the abusive retroactive and unequal application of a basically good law the Ley de Costas 1988 -

  • The compensation offered is a statement giving prior warning of loosing all remaining rights to the property in 30 + 30 years time time. This is retroactive application and against the Spanish constitution as well as the European convention of human rights. I am going to the European Parliament Petitions meeting on the 24 May, why not come along and argue your case.

  • Thank you for your comments.

Our house was built legally before the 1988 coastal law LEY DE COSTAS with licences and appears in the property registry , in fact the land was bought from the local council.

The coastal department drew the coastal line DESLINDE in 2007 and we are the wrong side of it. Result :- legal house nationalised with no monetary compensation.

  • Specifically speaking the COASTAL LAND GRAB LAW should be changed because is too hard, it was motivated for the left and green wind of the PSOE party …. It is radical. I will be 100% with you if that is your case, ... But the problem is that there are a lot of completely different illegal situations (most of them inland cases on RURAL LAND) And they have engaged they illegal cases with the COASTAL LAND GRAB LAW cases.

And believe me that I know what I am speaking about.

  • @cliffinlacasbah

All states have the right to nationalize land if it is for a good reason.

30+ 30 years looks quite generous to me.

How convenient to speak about human rights when NOT ALL THE EU countries have signed the tread.

Did you know that UK didn’t sign it?. No comments please.

Perhaps your lobby will wine in Brussels but we all know that you are liars in a 90% of the cases, and I don’t know specifically your case.

  • How convenient is to don’t Know the LINGO, don’t know the law, and …. Don’t pay the Council taxes….. I know from first hand some British leaving in Valencia that are very happy to live free of taxes and to enjoy the Spanish Public Services, and of course they know the illegal situation that they are enjoying. …. Don’t be so naïve.
