The BBC has confirmed it may have to make drastic cuts to its World Service radio operations as part of the UK's efforts to cut public spending.

But the scale of the cutbacks could see the broadcaster withdrawing key services from several countries, including Myanmar.

In Myanmar or Burma, as the BBC still calls it, the radio station now reaches 8.5 million listeners.

For many there it's the only source of news from the outside world.

And critics worry axing it would play into the hands of Myanmar's military rulers.

Nadim Baba reports from London.
