I don't really know what to think about any place including Japan, because I know it's more about the people, and people vary within any given country. I take it person by person.

I had a visitor from Japan. We chatted for like 8 months and then he came here. He brought so many gifts! OMg. 8-O

Love learning the history & culture...as a modern day visitor I love the beer vending machines, cheap cigarettes & the freedom to enjoy them with less restrictions. Available from a short distance around an awesome transport network of trains & buses & eliminating the need to drive. If you feel like beer on your journey, no worries....great place : )
