Write Great Fiction: Character, Emotion, Point of View.

Here is an up to date Story Guide. I like to look at this as I think of my stories.

  • Yeh, no joke, this has helped me so much. Thanks heaps for taking your time to share your knowledge. The funniest thing i noticed though,, as I move on from one part to the next, i notice that the number of views slowly declines :P as people lose patience and interest. So far I'm up to part 7 and i plan to watch the rest. Thanks man x.

  • @jakilious Yeah, people want knowledge but they want it in 2 minutes. Knowledge about writing just can't be taught that fast. But when you think about it, I cover the topic of structure and plot in under 2 hours. For the same info in book form, we are talking at least 300 pages.

  • But is it _organic_? ;)

On a more serious note, these have been pretty good thus far.

  • Hehe. Well organic meaning it grows naturally from the story itself rather than feeling tacked on. So often in novels story elements are tacked on, or even forced to fit the story. When everything in the story is organic, everything feels right.

  • I agree with ozwalled. These videos have been very helpful for an aspiring writer like myself and I would like to say thank you for your time and effort.

  • It's amazing how many ungrateful twats there are watching this. You should be bloody thankful he takes the time to help us newbies. Let's see you do better!

    Many many thanks!

  • Not even joking HOW DID I NOT SEE IT these steps seem so simple. IT's like your videos are a story and I'm the audience that just got a twist 3 chapters later than everyone else xD

  • this video series is very helpful, thanx a ton for it all. Also, I think you should tie in Jack's hate of aliens by making charlie an alien and bob a human; meaning that jack thinks it is charlie because of his pre-existing suspicion of aliens, but it turns out that it was a human. Maybe this could lead him to re-think his speciesism or hate of other intelligent lifeforms.

  • when your writing remember: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid.) that doesn't mean you can't make a lot of stuff in it, it just means that everything you write has to be connected somehow.

  • can u really make a go of it tho? like i have the ideas i believe i have the style but if i write my novel can i really turn it from a passtime/project to maybe a career? (again sory for bad grammer usin ps3)

  • I think you're awesome! Who cares if you say organic a lot? i don't see how that's a problem. Plus, like i said before, repeating makes us keep in mind the important things we should remember.

  • dont u mean speciesm.
