Backpacking California's Lost Coast from Mattole beach to Black Sands beach. It's a 25 mile walk, mostly on the beach. This is part 1 of 2. Part 2 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN00yuQ0szE
My Top 10 Lost Coast Tips:
1. Driving there takes forever; give yourself plenty of time. The roads are VERY curvy.
2. Garberville is the last reliable spot to get gas, food, and supplies.
3. Check yourself for ticks.
4. Know how to identify Poison Oak, there is lots of it.
5. Your feet will get wet. Wear shoes that dry fast. I prefer sneakers.
6. Bring sandal if desired (I do), but don't hike in open-toed shoes.
7. Hike North to South.
8. Maps showing danger zones and tide tables are mandatory safety equipment.
9. Bring bacon!
10. Take your time and enjoy a gorgeous, rugged, remote stretch of California's coastline.
