Anything Master Tatum has done I wouldn't ever describe as flowery. I think any changes Master Tatum has ever made are for the better. Mr.Parker is the Father Of American Kenpo, Master Larry Tatum has taken this art refined it and made it work better,not just look good.And with all due respect, when I see Master Tatum doing a form or technique and I see nothing but perfection, that's what I want also. So then we would be developing perfection within ourselves. LT Kenpo is already distilled

It is good to see this video and execution by Mr. Tatum since many kenpo instructors have some differences regarding the speed of the kata performance.

Larrys gotten so flowery over the years, what's up with the hands? And what the heck is that peacock thing he's doing now in the salutation? This is a very good example of Larry clearly stepping away from parker in many ways. Look for his video "Walls of Defense" made in the 80's in Jersey, UK. He was heavier and carried through more body momentum. Larrys always been stylistic anyway. Mr Parker wanted us to develop ourselves. Distill our "own" Kenpo and not copy another's form.

This is an excellent video displaying many of the principles of Kenpo. His movement is flawless. He is very much Ed Parker in style and it's a tough draw between him and Jeff Speakman.

@Fearless234 Some "rules" can be overruled, or even broken, when an expertly applying other principles. Other times, the circumstances don't allow for a rule, so then sequentially you'd move on to the next rule.

That's my take, opinion.

He "slapped himself" twice in this form, @0:27 both times were places where he'd be 'sandwiching' an opponent between his hands and knee. (Locked Wing & Circling Wing). The other 'thumps' you hear are him dropping his body weight, probably on a raised floor.

lots to learn from him, but i still dont understand why he doesnt follow the first rule of Kenpo and establish a base. good at slapping himself tho..
