Finally a topic on which we both agree. Cheers, Zizek!

A dim view of human creativity is betrayed here. Your reliance upon what is "natural" as an indicator of the limits and necessary actions of our species does not take into account alternate cases. Humans are capable of setting themselves on fire to achieve a political voice, of only saying one phrase for their entire adult life, or of calculating the number of protons in the universe. The creature you describe sounds dull, reactive, and yes, violent.

scientists believe that meat was the key factor in the human brain development that lead to intelligence.that's why zizek speaks of degeneration,in a humorous manner of course

@ZagorTeNay80 True Intelligence can be ( and is ) conditional to Knowledge, Wisdom is how you use your intelligence and knowledge and create somethink right, true, moral . . . :D its funny more words you know, better you can think, can you imagine if we werent thinking with WORDS but simbolically/we would picture everythink ? wow, we would be like animals

Bravo alistairthegreat !!! That comment just might be one of the most uninformed oppinions I have heard in a while... Thanx for a great laugh :):):)
As for our philosopher's statement: either he is joking or he is uneducated in this particular field.

humans are naturally violent, and when denying their nature, degenerate toward eating vegetables....and so on.

@AwakeToPresence During this reading I was reminded of some claims made by certain communist theoreticians and philosophers.
They used to say: Human being is as bad as a system in which he thrives.Well they could be right, still consequently all revolutionaries were bad because they have grown up in a corrupt society. Therefore successful revolution and eventually communism is not possible.
How can you assert that humans are NOT naturally violent?Does society make us violent?

@dojomojomofo yes i agree, its soft science or social science, difficult to find hard science that examines such general trends in societies over such a vast time, however i agree, steve taylor is not in the relevant field, i certainly have no access to hard proof, dont mean to spread misinformation but rather alternative strokes of thought that deserve consideration as i believe if we limit ourselves to hard science it hinders our ability to progress or to deeply project new concepts

@AwakeToPresence Sorry if this sounds blunt, but when it comes to ancient civilizations, I would tend to trust the accounts of archaeologists and anthropologists over that of a lone psychology professor and spiritual author. Pleasing revisionism is sure to sell copies, but it's not hard science.
@AlexanderofCydonia He's making a joke. I'm quite confident that Zizek does not in fact think vegetarians are degenerates who will turn into monkeys. Taking offense at this silly remark is itself quite silly.
