I think it's fair to say that devotees of every religion are either selective of their doctrine's teachings, and/or good at giving their version of God/Prophet the "benevolent" spin. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Mormons--we're all alike. I used to hate skeptics for being dull, arrogant, and without-feeling. Now, I'm glad to know there's a growing community of skeptics.
